on the roof . . .

Some more before and after pictures for the fans of my interior decorating ability . . . peel paper, paint, and put my junk in. It is a simple format to follow. Those people who make/produce/star in the HGTV series Design on a Dime have nothing on me. Give me the thousand dollars and I will actually BUY something instead of getting it out of the trash or off the roadside! This is considered the 'library' room. It is more a formal living room, but since we don't have formal furniture, it not really that formal in there.

This is the view from the back enclosed patio to our property to the northwest. The pond is still frozen over (it is our water source for the house) and we have several acres of pasture beyond it that stretches to the row of trees in the background. It is really pretty to sit and look out of the family room and watch wildlife naturally occur. To the left is the chicken house that we haven't used yet.

Yesterday Asher took on a new position as a Dish Network installer. Why not have them start working at a young age! Really he was un-installing the myriad of high tech equipment that was attached to our roof. Apparently, the people that owned the house prior to the foreclosure had a GREAT need for lots of TV channels. Three mounted dishes on the roof, and one located in the yard near the pond. The boys have decided that they are making shields out of them so they don't go to waste.

When I read your blogs I sigh...not pensively, not in agitation...I sigh like I do when I take a sip of the first perfect cup of coffee in the morning: Ildi, you know what I mean!!! I can almost feel you there. and my response is : you are rich beyond words...your children are rich beyond words. I hope you are as happy and satisfied as I imagine you are!!!

Wow! As I read your post, I almost choked on my ramen noodles! You are getting Dish Network? Will wonders never cease!
Then I continued to read and found out you were just pulling out technological funny bones! Oh well, I guess shields are at least Braveheart or Reepicheep like and will probably be better for the imagination anyway! Make them paint them with cool designs!

Sooooo is my background unpleasant, or did i change it too soon? I must confess that I get bored with them pretty easily. I loved your answer ... all except the part about running till you think you are going to vomit, but you don't...Garth? really? You LIKE that? I am going -- actually going to -- pray that God removes that like: running fine ~ the rest: NOPE!! As to all the rest, I love how you have such a clear take on your own heart. You do make spaces wonderful! You do rooms and thereby houses SO WELL!!! And words == yup!

Oh Garth, I like you so much! I think I have always known the "need" to push yourself, and the joy you feel thereby. I think it is the same in your running and your work and your art and your decorating...without the "cookie tossing". I think it ... well, makes room for the spark of delightful uniqueness that coats all you do. It is like that one extra spice, subtle and mysterious, that takes a soup from just food to "Ahhhh!" As to the "I like..." it has become habit with me, and something we do as a family. From when the children were small we would make lists of things for which we were genuinely grateful until we could "feel" the thankfulness and joy in them. They could be big or small: "I am thankful that we live in California in the summer" to "I am thankful that God thought of strawberries." Often I would say at bedtime: "I need a list of 5 thankful things when I come to pray with you." The habit effected a change in perspective for me -- and for us as a family. I saw even hard or dull situations through the light of God's constant goodness and provision. It is now really really "habit".
I love that you sat and thought about it as if you were going to write and publish it. I found when I began blogging that it felt like I had stumbled across a secret passage to a secret room inside of me. I now can go there to think about what I will write and it is different somehow than thinking about anything else. It really is like I have a new "voice". I hear and see differently when something is being formed there that will appear on my blog later.
